Takaichi Seeks BOJ Bond Buying Boost as Japan Interest Rates Rise
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has asked the Bank of Japan (BOJ) to increase its bond buying if needed to curb rising long-term interest rates. This was revealed by Jiji news agency in a report on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.
Takaichi made this request during a meeting with BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda in May. The Prime Minister asked the BOJ to take 'appropriate steps to stabilise markets' and increase bond buying if needed, according to Jiji.
Ueda replied that the BOJ needs to consider market reaction to such measures but will respond when circumstances require, as reported by Jiji.
