Takaichi's Approval Rating Hits Record Low Amid Japan's Economic Headwinds
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's administration approval rating has hit its lowest level since she took office, according to a Yomiuri newspaper poll. The rate dropped below 60% for the first time in July, with 57% of respondents approving and 34% disapproving.
The poll was conducted between July 24-26, showing a decline from June's 69%. Takaichi's efforts to combat rising living costs have also seen significant disapproval, with 71% of those polled disapproving of her administration's handling.
This comes as the country faces increased pressure due to rising bond yields and a slump in yen to four-decade lows. Analysts predict core inflation will climb back above 2% later this year, following a recent surge in producer prices.
