Tenaris Steel Expansion to Bring Thousands of Jobs to Northern Ontario
Tenaris, a steel pipe manufacturing company, is expanding its operations in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The $306 million investment will increase production capacity and create up to 200 skilled jobs.
The expansion is expected to be completed by 2029, bringing the total number of employees at Tenaris' Canadian facilities to over 1,500. The company currently employs more than 850 people in Sault Ste. Marie, where production has doubled over the past three years.
Tenaris' products are essential for drilling and transporting oil and gas from Western Canada and Atlantic Canada offshore projects. Martin Castro, president of Tenaris in Canada, said that sustained or increasing oil and gas drilling activity helps provide the world with the energy it needs to continue growing while keeping activity at their mill high.
The expansion is a significant boost for Sault Ste. Marie, which has seen its economy grow along with Canada's energy sector. The city's mayor, Matthew Shoemaker, described the investment as a demonstration of Tenaris' long-term commitment to making Sault Ste. Marie a hub for advanced manufacturing in Canada.
