Thai Baht Consolidates Amid Softer Dollar and Middle East Risks
The Thai Baht has been consolidating in recent weeks, according to Commerzbank FX Analyst Charlie Lay. The USD/THB pair has eased from around 33.90 in late July to about 32.70, aided by a softer Dollar.
This shift is attributed to Middle East developments and changing expectations for the Federal Reserve (Fed), as noted by the Bank of Thailand (BoT). The BoT has maintained its benchmark one-day repurchase rate unchanged at 1.00%, with the Monetary Policy Committee voting unanimously, 7-0.
The BoT appears comfortable staying on hold for an extended period, possibly up to H1 2027. Commerzbank expects the Thai Central Bank to remain on hold for the rest of 2026, as current policy settings provide sufficient support to growth while inflation expectations remain anchored.
