Thai Baht Hits Two-Month High as US Economic Data Weakens
The Thai baht reached a two-month high of 32.64 per US dollar last week, driven by weaker US economic data and stronger-than-expected Thai GDP.
According to Kasikorn Research Center, the baht strengthened steadily throughout the week, briefly reaching its highest point since June. However, it later weakened slightly amid concerns over Middle East tensions.
The Thai stock market was also volatile last week, but recovered towards the end of the week. The SET index closed at 1,613.78 points on August 21, up 0.29% from the previous week.
