Thailand-Canada Partnership Seeks Low-Carbon Cement Solutions
Thailand and Canada are collaborating on a project to pilot carbon capture technology in the Thai cement industry. The initiative, which is part of the 'Decarbonization of the Cement and Concrete Sectors in Thailand' project, brings together industry, government, academia, and global partners to support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The Mobile Carbon Capture Unit (MCCU), developed by the Clean Energy Technologies Research Institute at the University of Regina, Canada, has been deployed in Thailand for the first time. The unit will be tested in real industrial conditions within the cement sector as part of the Saraburi Sandbox project.
Dr. Chana Poomee, Honourary Chairman of the Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), stated that the project reflects Thailand's strong commitment to driving industry toward Net Zero through international collaboration. The transition to Net Zero for hard-to-abate sectors such as cement requires policy support from the government and international collaboration in technology, finance, and knowledge transfer.
