The Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) is partnering with Canada to pilot carbon capture technology in Thailand's cement industry. This initiative, part of the 'Decarbonization of the Cement and Concrete Sectors in Thailand' project, aims to support Thailand's transition to a low-carbon economy by 2050.

The Mobile Carbon Capture Unit (MCCU), developed by the Clean Energy Technologies Research Institute at the University of Regina, Canada, has been deployed in Thailand for the first time. This marks an important step in strengthening technological readiness for carbon capture technologies essential for high-emission industries like cement.

'The transition to Net Zero for hard-to-abate sectors such as cement cannot be achieved in isolation,' said Dr. Chana Poomee, Honourary Chairman of TCMA and President of the ASEAN Federation of Cement Manufacturers (AFCM). 'It requires policy support from the government, as well as international collaboration in technology, finance, and knowledge transfer to accelerate real-world implementation.'
