Thailand's PM Anutin Visits New Zealand, Seals Strategic Partnership
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will make an official visit to New Zealand this week, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The trip aims to formalize a strategic partnership and strengthen trade and business connections.
The joint declaration on the Strategic Partnership is expected to be signed by both prime ministers, along with cooperation documents focusing on economic and social security, education, culture, and police cooperation.
New Zealand's Prime Minister Chris Luxon emphasized the significance of the trading relationship between the two nations, stating that Thailand is ASEAN's third-largest economy and one of New Zealand's top 10 trading partners. Bilateral trade reached nearly NZ$4.8 billion in the year to March 2026.
Prime Minister Anutin will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, who joins a delegation of Thai business representatives. The visit is seen as a significant diplomatic effort to boost economic cooperation and deepen cultural ties between Thailand and New Zealand.
