Tick Travel Insurance: Affordable Coverage Comes with Fine Print
Tick Travel Insurance offers affordable policies for Australian travelers, but its coverage levels and fine print are key considerations.
The provider's international policies come in four tiers: Basic, Budget, Standard, and Top. The Basic policy focuses on essential medical cover and emergency assistance, with no trip cancellation benefit or modest baggage protection. The Budget tier adds cancellation cover up to roughly the cost of a modest overseas trip, along with limited luggage and some additional benefits.
The Standard and Top policies are more comprehensive, offering unlimited medical expenses, relatively high caps for luggage, cancellation, and rental vehicle excess, as well as extras like hospital cash and pet care back home. For example, Tick's Top policy currently offers up to around 20,000 Australian dollars for trip cancellation, 7,500 dollars for luggage, and 4,000 dollars for rental vehicle excess on many single trip international policies.
The author of the review found that only Standard and Top felt suitable for their Japan and Europe trip. They appreciated the ability to dial back or increase cover via different tiers rather than paying for a one-size-fits-all bundle. However, they also noted that Tick's fine print can catch travelers out, particularly when it comes to exclusions and conditions.
