The Bank of Japan (BoJ) has received a boost to its hawkish policy stance after Tokyo's consumer price index (CPI) data revealed that inflation in the capital remains above the central bank's 2% target.

According to Societe Generale, the Tokyo CPI rose by X% year-on-year in Month, exceeding market forecasts. Core CPI, which excludes fresh food, also remained elevated, indicating persistent price pressures in services and goods.

This marks the X consecutive month that inflation has stayed above the BoJ's target, suggesting that recent cost-push factors are broadening into more sustained demand-driven inflation.

Societe Generale strategists noted that the data 'supports the BoJ's hawkish stance,' as the central bank continues to normalize its ultra-loose monetary policy. The firm points to the BoJ's recent communications, which have emphasized the need to monitor wage growth and inflation expectations, both of which are showing signs of firming.
