Tokyo CPI Surges to 2.0% YoY as Japan's Economy Heats Up

Tokyo's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 2.0% year-over-year in July, up from 1.7% in June.

This increase in inflation was driven by a jump in Tokyo CPI ex Fresh Food and Energy to 2.0%, also exceeding expectations.

The Japanese Yen rebounded against the USD/JPY pair after the release of the data, with the exchange rate falling 2.10% to 159.95.
