The Nikkei share average rose in Tokyo on Friday as tech stocks rallied ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at Jackson Hole.

The index, which represents the performance of Japan's top companies, gained 0.8% to reach 66,682.88 by midday.

Advantest and Tokyo Electron, both chip-related heavyweights, led the gains with advances of 2.1% and 1.5%, respectively.

Trend Micro and Fujitsu were also among the top performers, rising 5.5% and 4.5%, respectively.

However, bond yields rose as oil prices increased amid ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East, tempering investor enthusiasm.
