The Tour de France has been marred by numerous fines and penalties throughout its stages. Stage 20, which took place from Le Bourg d'Oisans to Alpe d'Huez, saw Sepp Kuss receive a fine of 500 Swiss francs for discarding trash in the wrong places. He also lost 25 UCI points due to this infraction.

Additionally, Kuss was penalized with a 60-second time penalty and had another 50 UCI points deducted for his second offense regarding trash disposal. This brought his total fines to 1,500 Swiss francs and 75 UCI points lost.

Other riders who received fines on the same stage included Toms Skujins and Brent Van Moer, each fined 200 francs for accepting food from a team car where this was not permitted. Their team managers, Steven de Jongh and Alex Sans Vega, were punished more severely with a fine of 500 francs.
