Toyota Profit Surges on Strong Sales and Weak Yen
Toyota, Japan's largest automaker, reported a nearly doubling of profit for its fiscal first quarter due to solid demand in key markets and a favorable exchange rate. The company's net profit rose to $9.4 billion in the April-June period, up from $5.29 billion in the same quarter last year.
Quarterly sales increased by 10% year-over-year to $85 billion. A cheap yen has boosted Toyota's overseas earnings, with the U.S. dollar trading at about 160 yen during the fiscal first quarter this year, compared to around 145 yen in 2025.
The favorable currency effect added $2.2 billion to Toyota's quarterly operating profit. Chief Officer Takanori Azuma stated that demand remains strong for Toyota hybrids, particularly in the United States, where models such as the Camry mid-size sedan and RAV4 compact sport utility vehicle are selling well.
