Trade Dispute Escalation Weighs on USD/CAD Price Action
A growing sense of indecision has returned to USD/CAD price action as traders struggle to establish a clear directional bias. Over the last four trading sessions, daily fluctuations have remained modest at around 0.2%, a significant drop from the 0.6% moves observed last week.
The cautious market environment is driven by the ongoing trade dispute between Canada and the United States, as well as the recent behavior of bond markets in both countries.
New escalation in the trade dispute has seen the White House announce import restrictions on certain Canadian products, including dairy products, motorcycles, and alcoholic beverages. This retaliatory measure partly responds to Canada's introduction of tariffs on $20 billion worth of U.S. products last week.
