Trade War Escalation Slams Canadian Tourism, Devastates New York Economy
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has expressed concern about the economic consequences of the escalating trade war between the United States and Canada.
The Democrat pointed out that tariffs imposed by the US on Canadian products have led to a significant decline in Canadian tourism, with New York receiving around three million fewer visits from Canada compared to last year.
Hochul warned that the reduction in Canadian visitors has directly affected businesses such as wineries and hotels in northern New York, which depend heavily on tourist traffic.
The governor also stated that rebuilding the relationship with Canada could take a long time and expressed her concerns about the political consequences of Trump's trade policy for Republicans in the November midterm elections.
