Treasury Secretary's Secret Yen Buy Plan Exposed
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's plans to buy billions of dollars worth of Japanese Yen (JPY) have been exposed after a journalist caught his notes at a recent cabinet meeting at Camp David.
The meeting, which was partially open to journalists, took place on Friday. During the gathering, Bessent claimed that the US economy is 'the envy of the world.'
A picture taken by a journalist showed Bessent's notebook with his plans to buy JPY worth $5-10 billion scribbled under 'To Do.' The notes were still visible in front of him when he made his comments.
The US-Iran war has led to high oil prices, causing the yen to dip to its weakest level since 1986. It's unclear if the Treasury Department intervened to help prop up the yen's value against the dollar on Friday.
