Treasury Yield Premium Hits Highest Level in a Year Amid Inflation Concerns
The market premium for the US 10-year Treasury yield continues to rise, reaching its highest level in a year. The recent increase is largely due to inflation uncertainty related to the Iran conflict and ambiguity about the Federal Reserve's plans for monetary policy.
The premium over The Capital Spectator's estimate of 'fair value' has increased persistently since bottoming out in October 2025, when it was roughly at equilibrium. In recent months, the market rate has risen while the fair-value estimate has remained stable, resulting in a premium of 51 basis points - the highest since July 2025.
The current premium is considered modest and within a typical range from a historical perspective. However, some experts warn that if inflation gains traction and the Federal Reserve doesn't respond sufficiently to cool pricing pressure, the 10-year premium could rise further.
