Treasury Yields Show Mixed Signs Amid Easing Geopolitical Tensions
U.S. Treasury yields showed mixed signs on Wednesday as falling energy prices and easing geopolitical tensions brought relief to fixed-income traders.
The benchmark 10-year yield fell to 4.61%, a modest drop in intermediate borrowing costs, while the rate-sensitive 2-year yield ticked up to 4.206% and the 30-year bond edged higher to 5.16%.
Traders are positioning themselves for Friday's nonfarm payrolls release to gauge whether American employment growth is cooling sufficiently to alter the Federal Reserve's hawkish stance.
The recent pullback in yields has helped cool energy-driven inflation anxieties, granting bond buyers room to re-enter longer-dated duration.
