Trichy Airport Customs Foil Third Foreign Currency Smuggling Attempt
At Trichy International Airport in India, officials from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department seized foreign currencies worth Rs90 lakh from a female passenger. This is the third such incident foiled by AIU at the airport in the last two weeks.
The seizure was made after receiving a tip-off about suspicious activity in the departure area. Upon inspection, customs officials found the woman roaming around, and upon checking her belongings, they retrieved US dollar, British pound, and Euro currency notes worth Rs90 lakh.
A case has been registered under the Customs Act, 1962, and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of customs officials to prevent smuggling at airports in India.
