Trichy Airport Sees Third Currency Smuggling Attempt in Two Weeks
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department at Trichy International Airport in India foiled yet another attempt to smuggle foreign currencies. On Monday, they seized Rs90 lakh worth of US dollars, British pounds, and Euros from a female passenger bound for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This is the third such case in two weeks, highlighting the AIU's efforts to prevent currency smuggling at the airport. According to officials, the seizure was made after a tip-off led them to inspect the departure area of the airport, where they found the woman roaming suspiciously.
Upon searching her belongings, customs officers retrieved the foreign currencies with an equivalent value of Rs90 lakh. A case has been registered under the Customs Act, 1962, and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999.
