Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook is facing renewed scrutiny from the Trump administration over allegations of mortgage fraud, which her lawyer has called unfounded.

The White House launched its latest salvo against Cook earlier this month, accusing her of falsifying personal mortgage documents by describing an Atlanta condo as a primary residence on home financing documents.

Cook's attorney claimed the description was inadvertent and that her lender knew she was primarily based at her Michigan residence.

The allegations date back four years and were first raised by Federal Housing Finance Agency director Bill Pulte, who alleged Cook committed mortgage fraud by describing both a home in Michigan and one in Atlanta as primary residences.

The Trump administration's attempts to remove Cook from her position have been met with resistance from the Supreme Court, which ruled five to four in her favor two months ago, maintaining a block issued by lower courts that ruled Trump could not fire her without cause.
