Trump Administration Seeks to Fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook
The Trump administration is moving forward with its efforts to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, despite her lawsuit challenging the move. The White House sent a letter to Cook informing her that President Donald Trump was 'considering removing you from your position' and giving her until August 26 to contest it.
Cook has denied allegations of mortgage fraud made against her by Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which led to her nomination being blocked by the Senate in 2021. She has maintained that she accurately referred to two homes as her 'primary residence' on mortgage applications.
A Supreme Court decision in June allowed Cook to remain in her position while her lawsuit continues, with Chief Justice John Roberts noting that Trump could try again to fire her if given proper notice and a chance to contest it. The Trump administration is appealing a lower-court ruling in Cook's favor.
