Trump Administration Seeks to Fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook Again

The Trump administration is moving forward with its efforts to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, despite a Supreme Court ruling that allowed her to remain in her position while she fights the president's effort to terminate her over mortgage fraud allegations.

Cook was nominated to the Fed's Board of Governors by President Joe Biden and has been accused by the Trump administration of committing mortgage fraud by declaring two different homes as her primary residence, which can result in lower mortgage rates or smaller down payments for homebuyers.

Cook has denied the allegations, stating that she refused to bow to political pressure and continued to set interest rates based on what would best serve the American people. Her lawyer argued that Cook had mostly lived in one of the properties since purchasing it in 2005 and that referring to it as her primary residence was accurate.

The Trump administration is appealing a lower-court ruling in Cook's favor, with White House aide Dan Scavino informing Cook that President Donald Trump is 'considering removing you from your position' and giving her until August 26 to challenge it.
