Trump Criticizes Exchange Rate Imbalance with Canada
US President Donald Trump has criticized what he sees as an unacceptable imbalance in the exchange rate between the Canadian and US dollars. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the disparity is 'unacceptable' and has been this way for years.
The long-term average exchange rate between the two currencies is approximately one US dollar to 1.24 Canadian dollars. However, since 2015, the Canadian currency has generally traded between 1.20 and 1.45 Canadian dollars to the US dollar.
Currently, one US dollar buys around 1.38 Canadian dollars, making it worth about 72 US cents. A weaker Canadian dollar makes Canadian goods cheaper for US buyers while increasing the price of American products for Canadian consumers.
