U.S. President Donald Trump visited Michigan on Monday to defend his economic policies and support Republican candidates in the state's upcoming primary election.

The visit comes as a new round of steep import levies, including tariffs as high as 50% on Canadian goods, has taken effect, affecting parts of Michigan's economy.

At General Motors' Milford Proving Grounds, Trump argued that his policies have revived the auto industry and American manufacturing, despite concerns from businesses that the tariffs are hurting the state.

'I've done more for you than your parents,' Trump joked during a speech at the facility, where he also watched Corvette, Cadillac, and Hummer vehicles compete in drag races.
