Trump Defies Reality, Pushes Forward with Controversial Agenda Items
President Donald Trump is pushing forward with new plans to address key goals despite recent losses from the Supreme Court. The court previously shot down most of Trump's tariffs, finding that he lacked the authority to create new import taxes without congressional approval.
Trump has also faced setbacks in his efforts to have Lisa Cook, a Joe Biden appointee, fired from her role on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. The court ruled against his executive order attempting to reshape the definition of 'birthright citizenship' in direct defiance of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Trump has a tendency to 'interpret judicial rulings broadly', pushing to see how much leeway he can find to pursue his agenda items in spite of them. Critics have been quick to respond in court, with Aarti Kohli, executive director of the Asian Law Caucus, speaking out against Trump's new order targeting birthright citizenship again.
Cook's legal team has also spoken out, calling allegations against her 'baseless' and stating that there is no valid cause for removing Governor Cook under the facts and Supreme Court precedent.
