Trump Delays Tariffs on Canada Amid Reported Trade Deal
US President Donald Trump has delayed the implementation of 50% tariffs on Canadian goods for three days, citing a deal between the two countries. The tariffs were set to take effect at midnight on Wednesday but will now be put on hold until Friday.
The decision was announced by Trump in an online post, where he said that Canada and the US had reached a deal, subject to finalizing documents. He added that the Keystone XL pipeline project may also be revived as part of the agreement.
Prime Minister Mark Carney characterized the delay as a postponement to allow trade discussions to continue, saying that substantial progress has been made but important work remains to be done. He emphasized Canada's focus on building a stronger, more independent economy at home.
