Trump Demands Global Interest Rate Low Amid Strong Jobs Report
US President Donald Trump has made a bold demand to the Federal Reserve to slash interest rates to the lowest level in the world. This comes after a strong August jobs report, which added 162,000 jobs and exceeded forecasts.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: 'Great jobs number just announced, breaking all estimates (except mine!) by double and triple.' He argued that the US has stronger credit than other countries and should have lower interest rates.
Trump also threatened to halt trade with every country the US runs a deficit against if the Fed refuses to cut rates. 'LOWER THE RATE OR I'LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT,' he wrote.
