Trump Demands Lower Interest Rates Amid Strong Jobs Report
President Donald Trump has called for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates to match those of other countries. In response to a stronger-than-expected jobs report, which showed that U.S. payrolls rose by 162,000 in August and the unemployment rate held steady at 4.1%, Trump argued that high interest rates put the U.S.A. at an unfair disadvantage.
He stated that 'a strong country means a lower interest rate - it's a better credit' and suggested that the Fed should aim for the lowest interest rate of any country in the world.
Trump also threatened to cut off trade with countries that have trade deficits with the U.S., stating that he has 'an absolute right to do so', as acknowledged by the Supreme Court in its tariff decision.
