Trump Demands Lowest Interest Rate in the World Ahead of Fed Meeting
US President Donald Trump has made it clear that he wants the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low, even lower than any other country. Speaking at the Irish Open golf tournament on Sunday, September 13, Trump stated that no country should have a lower interest rate than the US.
In an apparent reference to his own economic policies, Trump said 'I know more about formulas than anybody, and with the best credit in the world, we make other countries rich.'
The Fed is set to meet later this week, less than a week after the Labor Department's Consumer Price Index posted its largest increase in four months. This has reinforced expectations that the US central bank will raise interest rates.
However, Trump has been vocal about his opposition to a rate hike, saying 'LOWER THE RATE OR I'LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT.'
