Trump Demands Rate Cut Amid Strong Jobs Report
The US economy added 162,000 jobs in August, exceeding expectations and marking its strongest monthly gain since March. The unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%, a figure unchanged from July. Economists had predicted a much smaller increase of 53,000 jobs.
President Donald Trump responded to the jobs report by calling on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, saying 'Lower the rate or I'll stop trading with countries with which we have a deficit.' This ultimatum comes as the Fed prepares to make its next interest rate decision in under two weeks.
