Trump Demands Rate Cut Amid Strong Jobs Report
US President Donald Trump has called on the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates following a strong jobs report. In a post on Truth Social, he welcomed the creation of 162K jobs in August, exceeding expectations.
Despite the robust labor market, Trump renewed his demands for more accommodative monetary policy from the Fed. He argued that the US's stronger creditworthiness should translate into lower interest rates and suggested the country should have the lowest rates globally.
The President took a direct approach by linking interest rates to trade policy, stating 'Lower the rate or I'll stop trading with countries with which we have a deficit.' Trump also proposed this approach as an alternative to tariffs, urging the Fed Board to lower borrowing costs.
