The US economy added 162,000 jobs in August, exceeding expectations and reversing a summer slowdown in hiring. The unemployment rate remained at 4.1%, with little change over the year.

In response to the strong jobs report, President Donald Trump urged the Federal Reserve to slash interest rates, warning that high interest rates put the US at an unfair disadvantage.

Trump threatened to cut off trade with countries maintaining a deficit with the US if interest rates are not lowered. He claimed this would be a better solution than tariffs and expressed confidence in his right as President to make such decisions.
