Trump Demands Rate Cuts Amid Strong Jobs Report and Inflation Fears
US President Donald Trump has urged the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, citing that higher rates disadvantage the US compared to other nations. This comes as the country's jobs report for August showed unexpectedly robust growth, with 162,000 new positions added, far surpassing analyst predictions of 56,000.
The job growth was largely driven by increased hiring in the hospitality and education sectors. Trump emphasized the need for the US to have 'the LOWEST RATE of any country in the World,' expressing his discontent with current policies. He called on the Federal Reserve Board under its new leadership to act patriotically, stating 'High interest rates put the U.S.A. at a very unfair disadvantage, and I won’t allow that to happen!'
However, the latest data also revealed ongoing inflation concerns, with prices increasing by 3.4% over the past year, above the Federal Reserve's target of 2%. The next decision regarding interest rates will be made during the meetings scheduled for September 15-16.
