Trump Denies Frequent Conversations with Fed Chair Amid Independence Concerns
President Donald Trump has confirmed that he spoke with Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh recently, but denied claims of frequent conversations since Warsh took over in May. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Trump and Warsh have been in regular contact.
The president contradicted the report, saying they only spoke once, briefly, a few days ago. He dismissed claims that he lives and breathes conversations with Warsh, every time.
Trump reiterated his belief that interest rates should be lower, while insisting that the Fed chair remains free to make independent decisions. 'I know what he'd like to do, but he has to run it,' Trump said. He added that he supports Warsh and is behind him 100%.
