Trump Downplays Escalation Risks in Comments on Iran
US President Donald Trump downplayed escalation risks in his latest comments on Iran, stating that the country is not a big problem and that the US is now in a very strong position. In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that he would like to avoid targeting critical infrastructure such as power plants and bridges, indicating a preference for measures that reduce the risk of a direct military confrontation.
Trump maintained a hardline stance on Iran, however, saying that Tehran cannot break deals anymore. This suggests that Washington intends to maintain diplomatic pressure on Tehran while signaling a preference for measures that avoid a broader regional conflict.
The US Dollar weakened following Trump's comments, with the DXY trading flat around 101.53 at the time of writing. Oil prices also remain under pressure, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) US Oil losing 1.24% on the day to trade around $80.20.
