Trump Imposes New Tariffs on Nearly All US Trade Partners
The Trump administration has imposed new tariffs on imports from over 60 countries, citing concerns about forced labor violations. The tariffs range from 10% to 12.5%, affecting nearly all US trade partners. This move comes after a previous round of tariffs expired on Friday.
Washington state and 24 other states have sued the Trump administration to block these tariffs, arguing that they will only pass costs along to American consumers and businesses. The lawsuit claims that President Trump does not have the legal authority to impose these tariffs, citing a Supreme Court decision in February 2026 that rejected his claim under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
According to Washington's Office of Financial Management, the previous round of tariffs put over 30,000 jobs at risk, particularly in agriculture and aircraft manufacturing. An analysis from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York found that nearly 90% of tariff costs were paid by US consumers and businesses.
