Trump Imposes Tariffs on Dozens of Countries Amid Forced Labor Investigation
US President Donald Trump has imposed new tariffs on dozens of trade partners as part of an investigation into forced labor in their supply chains. According to the Federal Register, goods from some 10 trading partners deemed to have adopted forced-labor restrictions will face a 10% tariff. This includes Mexico, the UK, Canada, and India.
The EU and Taiwan will also see tariffs of at least 10%, while Japan, Switzerland, and South Korea will be taxed at at least 12.5%. Products from dozens of other countries will face a 12.5% charge. Trump has made it clear that he intends to use tariffs to support the US economy and American producers.
This move is part of his plan to address trade imbalances, which he believes have been detrimental to American workers. The revenue generated from these tariffs is expected to be used to lower personal income taxes.
