Trump Misleads on Canada's Economy and Trade
U.S. President Donald Trump has made several misleading claims about Canada's economy and trade policies on his Truth Social account.
In one post, he stated that Canada conducts 95% of its business with the U.S., claiming the country is heavily dependent on the American market.
However, Statistics Canada data shows that only 71.7% of merchandise exports went to the United States in 2025, down from 75.9% in 2024.
Trump also claimed that Canada's unemployment rate is at 10%, but employment data from Statistics Canada shows it has actually decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 6.4% in July 2026, the lowest rate since July 2024.
