Trump Predicts 20% US Growth Rate Amid Federal Reserve Inflation Worries
President Donald Trump has predicted that the US economy could grow at rates as high as 20%, surpassing previous records since World War II. During an Oval Office event announcing agreements to lower prescription drug prices, Trump stated 'We could have a GDP of 14, 15, 16 and 20.' He argued that even such rapid growth should not prompt the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates, claiming 'Success in growth does not cause inflation.'
This comes as the Fed has kept its benchmark rate steady at 3.5% to 3.75%. Trump continues to push for lower borrowing costs despite the inflation concerns of Federal Reserve officials, who are working to keep prices below their 2% target.
