Trump Pushes Fed to Lower Interest Rates Ahead of Policy Decision

President Donald Trump has renewed his pressure on the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates ahead of its policy decision, just two days before it's scheduled to announce a monetary policy decision.

In comments made aboard Air Force One, Trump stated that the U.S. should have the lowest borrowing costs in the world and expressed support for Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, who he believes wants to lower rates but is being held back by other board members.

'Rates should be lowered... We have other countries that are paying less interest rates,' Trump said. 'We should have the lowest interest rate in the world.'

The Federal Reserve's benchmark policy rate currently stands at 3.5%-3.75%, unchanged since cumulative rate cuts in the second half of 2025, and investors are sharply divided over whether policymakers will leave rates unchanged or opt for a surprise 25-basis-point increase.
