Trump Renews Bid to Fire Fed Governor Over Mortgage Fraud Allegations
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has denied allegations of mortgage fraud for a second time as President Donald Trump considers whether to renew his effort to remove her from office. In a letter sent to the White House, Cook's lawyers called the accusations 'unfounded and untrue'.
Cook was appointed to the Fed in 2022 by former President Joe Biden and her term is set to expire in 2038. She has not faced criminal charges to date and maintains that she never committed mortgage fraud or any intentional wrongdoing.
The White House did not immediately comment on Cook's letter, but Trump had previously repeated allegations made more than a year ago by Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Cook rebutted those allegations in a detailed letter to Justice Department officials in the fall.
