President Donald Trump has renewed his threat to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from office. This move follows a lengthy battle between the White House and Cook, who has been accused of mortgage fraud.

The White House sent a letter dated August 5 to Cook, citing a June Supreme Court opinion that denied Trump's initial attempt to immediately remove Cook from her position. The letter instructed Cook to provide a written response with evidence by August 26, amid allegations that she made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements.

Cook has denied any wrongdoing and her attorney, Abbe Lowell, stated that the White House's allegations are 'baseless' and that there is no valid cause for removing Cook. The controversy began in August 2025 when Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte referred mortgage fraud allegations against Cook to the DOJ.
