Trump Renews Threats to Fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook Amid Mortgage Fraud Allegations

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has pushed back against renewed threats from the White House to fire her, citing a lack of legal basis for removal. The Trump administration first sought to remove Cook last year over allegations that she committed mortgage fraud, which she denies.

Cook's attorneys, Abbe Lowell and Norman Eisen, stated in a letter that 'an inadvertent error is not fraud' and that the attacks on her are 'an attempt by President Trump to force the Federal Reserve to bend to his will.'

According to the Supreme Court, Cook can remain in her position while the case against her is litigated. The justices also ruled that Trump could try to fire her again if he provided proper notice and a chance for her to contest it.
