Trump Reveals U.S. Intervention in Yen-Dollar Market to Support Japan
U.S. President Donald Trump revealed on his way back to Washington, D.C. that the United States intervened in the yen-dollar market due to its good relations with Japan.
The intervention was aimed at curbing the yen's depreciation, which has seen a steep decline recently. Japanese authorities have stepped into the foreign exchange market to buy yen and sell dollars, with reports suggesting a scale of between 6 trillion and 7 trillion yen (approximately 55 trillion to 64 trillion KRW).
According to Reuters and AFP, Trump stated that Japan needed 'a little help' and that the U.S. is 'always there for Japan'. This unusual simultaneous market involvement by both countries has raised eyebrows in financial circles.
