Trump Revives Bid to Fire Fed's Lisa Cook Over Mortgage Fraud Claims

President Trump is reviving his effort to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, citing allegations of mortgage fraud that she denies. This move comes after a Supreme Court decision in June allowed Trump to try again to remove Cook over these claims. The White House has given Cook three weeks to provide an explanation and evidence for the alleged false statements on her mortgage agreements.

The same allegations were made last year when Trump first tried to fire Cook, but she denied them and filed a lawsuit challenging her dismissal. A federal court blocked Trump's initial attempt, and the Supreme Court upheld that decision in June. However, Chief Justice John Roberts noted at the time that this ruling did not preclude Trump from trying again.

Cook's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has stated that these allegations are baseless and that there is no valid cause for removing Cook from her position as a Federal Reserve Governor. Lowell said they will challenge this latest attempt to remove Cook and preserve her role at the central bank.
