Trump Revives Bid to Remove Fed Governor Over Mortgage Fraud Allegations
The Trump administration has revived its attempt to remove US Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from her position. The move comes after the Supreme Court allowed the White House to provide Cook with 21 days to respond to mortgage fraud allegations, which the Trump administration claims undermine public confidence in the Federal Reserve.
The letter, dated August 19 and shared by ABC News, alleges that Cook knew about these allegations since at least August 25, 2025, but has never provided an explanation for this serious misconduct. The White House says this constitutes 'cause' for removal.
Cook's lawyers, Abbe Lowell and Norm Eisen, rejected the allegations, stating they are as baseless now as they were a year ago when President Trump tried to remove Governor Cook and interfere with the independence of the Federal Reserve.
