U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized the long-standing exchange-rate gap between the U.S. and Canadian dollars, calling it 'unacceptable'. In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared that Canada's currency imbalance with the U.S. is no longer tolerable.

The U.S. dollar has historically traded significantly stronger than the Canadian dollar, with one Canadian dollar currently worth roughly 72 U.S. cents (trading around C$1.38 per U.S. dollar). This disparity has been a long-standing issue in bilateral trade relations between Washington and Ottawa.

Trump views the currency gap as an unfair advantage contributing to trade deficits, citing its impact on the price of Canadian exports for American buyers while making U.S. goods more expensive for Canadian consumers.
