US President Donald Trump has publicly criticized the long-standing exchange-rate disparity between the US and Canadian dollars, calling it 'unacceptable' on his Truth Social platform.

The bilateral trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa have been escalating without a diplomatic resolution, with Trump stating that the currency imbalance had persisted for years without correction. He added that 'it has been that way for years - but no longer!'

The Canadian dollar has remained weaker than its US counterpart for most of the past 15 years, trading at an average of roughly 1.24 Canadian dollars to the greenback.

Diplomatic efforts to resolve the trade dispute collapsed after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney ordered his negotiating team to return home from Washington, prompting Trump's criticism and subsequent US plans to impose 50 percent tariffs on key Canadian imports.
